Emerald’s syllabus language:
Instead of exams, you will be building presentations that cover various topics we have covered. You are welcome to work individually or with a partner. Your guides will include an explanation of a topic, some examples, and tips and tricks. This could be in the form of a powerpoint, a video, or any other medium you can think of. You will present your guides to the class.

Concept Portfolio Overview
Instead of quizzes or exams in this class, we are creating a project called the Concept Portfolio. A fully completed Concept Portfolio will contain...
- 4 problem sets with a rough draft of the first two problem sets due at midterm and final drafts submitted at the end of the quarter
- The rough drafts are not given final grades until the end of the quarter when you submit final drafts, but it is highly recommended that you submit them. Your classmates need you to submit your rough drafts so that they can complete their peer reviews. Additionally, Dr. Claire is available to give feedback on any rough drafts you submit along the way so that you can feel confident with what you submit for your final draft at the end of the quarter.
- 4 peer reviews of your classmates' problem sets to be completed at some point before the end of the quarter
- a summary of the four concepts you selected
- a reflection about your process of making the portfolio
